Quick Start Guide

Follow these four steps to get rolling.

Settings

Click on settings in the upper right hand of the screen. This will open the settings tab in your user Panel. Here you can set your password, input your Full Name, and manage your email notification preferences. Please also add your picture; this makes you more easily identifiable by your friends.

Tasks

This is what Mindjet Connect Action is all about - creating, sharing and following tasks. Type the things you need to get done in the task input space below your picture - or in the input bar in the top left of your page.

When you click return, or click on the green '+', a new panel for the task you just created is opened. Within this panel you can set the Target Date, add Comments, Attachments and more.

Projects

Organize your tasks by project. Create a project by clicking on 'new' next to the word 'Projects' in the left hand navigation bar. When you do this, a Project Panel opens up that you can customize. Once a project has been created, you can assign a task to a project from within the Task Panel, or create project specific tasks from within that panel.

Connections

Share your tasks with others. Invite them to connect with you by clicking '+' next to the word Connections in the left hand navigation bar. When you share Tasks with others, Mindjet Connect Action becomes infinitely more powerful.

Top Navigation Bar

Top navigation bar

Create a task here allows you to create a Task for yourself or someone else. When you type in your Task and press enter on your keyboard (or click the green + sign) a panel opens up immediately below. This is the Task you have just created, that you can now manipulate.

The default setting for this Task is that it is private, for your eyes only. The same happens when you create a Task from within your User Panel. However, if you create a Task in someone else's user Panel or in a Project Panel, the message defaults to that User or that Project.

Search for a task here is a Task search tool. Start typing the name of the task you're looking for and we'll do the rest.

Settings launches your user panel with the settings tab open. This is where you can customize your Mindjet Connect Action experience.

Tips turns on the tips window in your workspace.

Picture Clicking on your picture will open your personal task panel.

Logo Clicking this reloads the page with your panel and the recent activity panel open.

Side Navigation Bar

Side navigation bar

Searches This section is populated with a few search shortcuts such as My Tasks and Due Today. You can customize your search by clicking on new. This opens the search panel that lets you find tasks by date, follower, owner and creator.

Projects Easily access all the Projects you are part of or, very simply and rapidly, create a new Project.

Clicking on Projects or the word more at the bottom opens up a panel with the list of all your projects. Here you can click and drag projects up and down to customize your viewable projects.

Connections Here is where you access and assign tasks to those you're connected to and invite those that aren't.

Clicking on more... will open a panel that will let you customize the projects and people you wish to have visible in the left hand navigation.

Panels

User Panel

User Panel

This panel lists a person's Tasks in order of priority. By clicking on a Connection, you can see their list of tasks, but only those tasks that you have shared access to.

A Note on Privacy: Only you can see all the tasks you have in your User Panel. Your Connections can only see the Tasks on your list that they are connected to. Visit our privacy and permissions page to learn more

The User Panel is divided into tabs:

Tasks Tab

Under this tab you will see the list of Tasks that belong to this person. When you click on a task in a list, that task opens in a new panel immediately to the right.

The Tasks in a User Panel are divided into sections:

Proposed Tasks are ones that haven't been opened yet. (Like unread email).

Active Tasks have been clicked on by the owner. (Similar to read emails).

Snoozing Tasks the user has snoozed. They wake up a week later. Too bad your alarm clock doesn't allow that!

Finished Tasks are those that have been checked off. This can be done from within the Task Panel (the big "finish" button)or by clicking on the small box by the Task name in the User or Project List.

Closed Tasks are those that have been killed, but not finished. Good for duplicates, or things that will never get done.

Calendar Tab

Tasks with Target Dates will appear in your calendar. Scroll back and forwards in time with the little triangles at each side of the calendar date.

Click on a Task in your Calendar to open that Task

User History Tab

Every action pertaining to the user is tracked here. Only the panel owner sees their complete history. Other users can ONLY view the history of Tasks and activities to which they are connected.

Settings Tab

This is only visible to the actual owner of the panel and has several sections:

Identification Set the name people will see publicly and your password

Identities Connects your Connect Action account to your Google account

Email Allows you to be identified by several email accounts

Picture Sets your user image

Notifications This is where you manage the verbosity of Mindjet Connect Action, the types of message you'll get in your email inbox.

Project Panel

Project Panel

Project panels are designed for teams of people to view all the tasks and files for a specific project.

Creating and deleting Projects

New Projects are created in the left hand navigation bar by clicking on the green 'new' button. To delete a project, click on the triangular button located on the same line as 'add members' button. A Finish button will appear that you can click on.

WARNING: If you finish a project it can't be revived. All the Tasks within the Project will not disappear though and still belong to the people they have been assigned to.

Adding and removing Project members

Lets you add people to your Project. To remove a person from your project, go to the members tab, find the person on the team you want off the project and click their remove button.

Tasks Tab

As with the user panel, all the tasks for the project are listed in order of priority. Tasks in a Project Panel have one difference; at a glance you can see who owns which Task within the Project. See User Panel Tasks Tab for details.

Posts Tab

You can Post a message to the entire project team. It's like a Facebook wall for the project.

Calendar Tab

All the Tasks in this Project with target dates will appear in your calendar. Scroll back and forwards in time with the little triangles at each side of the calendar date.

Click on a Task in your Calendar view to open that Task

History Tab

Everything action that occurs and has occurred in this Project is tracked here.

Files Tab

This is where you can find all the files associated with this Project.

Simply click on the file you want to access it. Files here are listed alphabetically.

Settings Tab

Picture let's you customize the icon for this Project.

Project Visibility is a feature to make your project list searchable and visible to the entire Internet. When you check the box and click save, a custom URL will be provided that you can share with anyone. People who want to access this list from this link that are not using Mindjet Connect Action may view the list. If this person wishes to interact with the list they need to become a Mindjet Connect Action user.

Recent Activity Panel

This panel opens up whenever you login to Mindjet Connect Action. You can also access it from the Recent Activity link in the left hand nav bar.

This is essentially a live feed of all the tasks and projects you are connected to. Whenever someone creates or edits a task you are a follower of to, it will appear here.

Tips and Tricks

Task Score

Mindjet Connect Action's secret sauce, the thing that orders everything. Each Task is given a number score which helps Mindjet Connect Action determine where it sits with regard to every other Task that surrounds it. This number is based on many things including: due date, pings, Tasks blocking it, attachments, the number of people involved in the Task... and more.

Mindjet Connect Action is not perfect, but it is pretty smart. It should get a Task pretty close to where it should be on the list. That said, you can also manually move Tasks up and down to further refine the accuracy of a Tasks position and its score.

Bookmarking

If you are tricky/techy you'll notice that it is fairly easy to decipher our URLs. Feel free. In fact, you can bookmark the URL when the panels are laying out in a way you like. That way you can come back to just where you left off.

Yays!

Yay's are a nice way of giving quick affirmations. Everyone has a 'yay' count displayed in their user panel. No, you can't 'yay' yourself!

Ping

Ok, we know it's a nerdy name, but it allows you to temporarily increase a task's score, and to send a notification out to the owner that you are still interested in that particular task.
